Vifloor Canada, along with representatives from Sands Commercial Flooring, Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, Bentall Kennedy, Manulife Financial, Avison Young, QuadReal Property Group, and Royal Bank of Canada recently participated in this year’s Scotiabank Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer event.
This year’s fundraising event was held on Saturday September 23 at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, featuring hundreds of road hockey games, as well as musical acts, celebrity appearances, and interactive activities. Our team, the Op’s Monkeys, raised $23,382.50 and were the 18th highest fundraising team out of 150 teams playing. Once again, our team led the commercial real estate division in fundraising.
Similar to a hockey draft, each of the top 35 fundraising teams had the opportunity to draft a celebrity onto its team for a portion of the day. The Op’s Monkeys used their 18th overall pick to land Toronto Maple Leafs legend Darryl Sittler.
Funding for cancer research
The tournament provides critical funding for cancer research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top five cancer research centres in the world. Funds raised for The Princess Margaret contribute to areas such as immunotherapy, cancer stem cell and genomics research, among many others.
This year, players and their donors raised a total of $2.6 million. In its seven-year history, the event has raised a total of $16 million in its battle against cancer.
This is why we play
A Canadian is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes. We all know someone who has been affected. Thank you to our wonderful teammates, donors, and all involved in making this event a success and for supporting an important cause.
